Yorkshire Terriers are very delicate, and susceptible to cold and infection. They frequently get bronchitis and other respiratory diseases, which pose serious breathing difficulties. These dogs can suffer from anaphylactic reactions when anaesthetized. Yorkshire Terriers have very sensitive stomachs, so they often suffer from indigestion. Consult your local veterinarian concerning feeding and health problems that may arise.
These dogs are prone to spinal problems, which are likely to result in poor movement of the limbs. Hindquarters are often affected by paralysis. Bitches often require deliveries by Caesarian section. Yorkshire Terries often suffer from early tooth decay, so the food must be dry and strong to provide exercise for strengthening teeth.
Yorkshire Terriers - Dogs - Care
Yorkshire Terriers’ long and glossy hair requires regular and thorough grooming. The hair on the head should be either tied back with a strip of fabric or ribbon or neatly trimmed. Do not bathe your pet too frequently, because the coat may lose its natural gloss and turn dull. Clean your dog's teeth on a daily basis. Do not expose them to excessive physical strains or rough treatment, because they have a fragile skeleton.
Yorkshire Terriers are well suited for apartment life, although they would not mind a brief walk in the yard or an hour of active playing. Yorkshire Terrier dogs are sensitive to drastic temperature fluctuations, and therefore they are better off in warm climates.
